I’m clever, ugly and unpopular :-/

Well according to facebook anyway! I have the highest IQ of my ‘friends’, I’m in the bottom third of attractiveness and according to my latest notification X amount of people are more popular than me - even more insulting given that I never added the applications that are apparently rating my ugliness & unpopularity!

One application I did have for a while (and swiftly got rid of) reported to me that not many of my ‘friends’ wanted to sleep with me. This I didn’t feel so insulted about given that the majority of my ‘friends’ are young people we’ve worked with, male, or family members (which narrows down the minority who apparently did want to sleep with me - or at least I hope so!).

Frankly though I’m bored of facebook and actually I think I always have been bored of it although recently it seems everyones desperately developing facebook applications and groups. You can edit your google docs, you can donate to charities & good causes, you can plan events (as YoMo does with volunteers), and of course you can find out how ugly you are and despite your ugliness how many people would still sleep with you!

What more could you ask for?! A one stop shop for work, play, sharing & flirting (actually doesn’t that sound like most offices?). Personally besides being bored of facebook I don’t understand the desire to do things like edit your documents in facebook - is it such a big deal to just have these open in a new window/tab?! I prefer instead to have my ‘work’ stuff open when I need it and then shut them all down and go to my ‘play’ stuff when I’m bored or exhausted of work.

Why then did I set up a facebook group for YoMo and therefore merge the work/play space?! Well mostly for convenience - the technology is good and its an easy way of getting news out for events & courses and seeing who’s available. As Hilary points out in the comments on this blog post maybe the ‘old lines between work & play’ will disappear? If so is this healthy?

I’m not sure - I’ve spent years convincing myself that I was lucky to do work that I’d happily do for free and so working 16 hour days wasn’t a problem. Nowadays I’m not so sure. There was a period when I found my hobbies took up too much time when I wanted to get on with work, nowadays I’m realising the value of having time well away from work (quite a challenge if you work from home), so its interesting to see how/if social networks will change the way people view their lives and how work/play interacts.

Still I’m bored with facebook (now maybe if I change my profile pic I can get some better ratings…………)
