The Seemingly Impossible

Heres the follow up to Han Roslings theme’ the seemingly impossible is possible’ (and randomly some sword swallowing!).

He has some very interesting arguments. Namely that Africa is developing but its naturally far behind the ‘developed world’ (ie. you can’t just throw a load of money at it and expect everything to be ok), and that every rich country became rich by increasing carbon emissions and this so far is the only way to become richer (so if you accept that carbon emissions are bad for the planet so it’s hard to see how third world countries are able to become richer given the pressures from the developed countries to limit carbon emissions).

He also points out the two most critical factors of development for countries:

  • Human rights &
  • Culture
